Soomo Staff Picks for DC

Tortilla Coast – Where the local Washington staffers gather after work. This is a hoppin’ joint, and a great place to get a feel for what staffer life is like.

Ice skating in front of the National Archives – Seriously… totally cool!

Get a library card for the Library of Congress – Do research now, later, or simply relax in their study rooms.

Book a tour of the Capitol – You have to make a reservation, but it’s easy to do.

Check out the National Museum of American History – It was recently renovated and reopened, and we’ve heard nothing but amazing things about it.

Visit the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial - It’s a must-see.

Get your art on at the National Gallery of Art - This is the best place to escape crowds. It will be especially quiet at this time of year, and some rooms you will have entirely to yourself (plus the security guard).

If you’re looking for great restaurants and shops, head over to the neighborhood known as Dupont Circle. Ask your hotel concierge for directions.

Because most DC locals live outside of town, much of the greater downtown area closes early. Grab yourself a Metro card and don’t hesitate to venture further out for a great dinner in the evening.

Lastly, here are a few random bits of info we learned from a DC regular: “The food at the National Museum of the American Indian is the best. Make sure to eat there when you’re doing the museum thing. Also, check out the cafeteria in the Rayburn House Office Building. It’s delicious and a fun adventure (and open to the public).
