Here's another quiz site called Vote Match US. It's easier to use but doesn't have as much detail about the issues.

Comment on A Very Federal Christmas by Guy Salsburg

Christmas is not a federally recognized religious holiday. In fact the law making Dec. 25th a holiday does not mention religion. If Christmas, the holiday, was a federal recognition of a religious holiday it would be Un-Constitutional and have been declared so by now. There have been federal lawsuits against the gov't in which the claiment stated it is illegal for Christmas to be a holiday because it is religious, but every case has been shot down because the law making it a holiday does not address religion. Dec 25 was mostly piucked as a national holiday because employees nationwide demanded the day off and businesses/owners caved in, but needed the federal recognition for monetary reasons. This mass of employees encluded employees of every imaginable religion paracticed in the USA, to include Jews, Mormons, Native Indians, etc. Virtually all people throughout the world who follow the January thru December calendar look to the ending weeks of December as a time to be haooy and wish the same on family and friends and even strangers - it feels good to have lived the year and to prepare for the approaching new year. Not all Christians and nonChristians recognize Dec 25 as the date of Jesus's birthday and many scholars believe it was an artificially selected date. My family is not religious and we, like millions of other families, celebrate Christmas as the non-religious holiday it (federal law wise) is. To us it is a day to have a good time with family and friends, exchange gifts and good wishes, and to share a great dinner with family (extended families included), friends and even strangers in need.

I think that these are just a couple of really good resources on the GOP field of candidates. People who intend to vote in an informed fashion can get a good cross-section, but the thing that really doesn't get covered at all in mainstream media reporting is the candidates' voting records and their policy positions relative to the Constitution. This should be the gold standard litmus test for conservative politics, but it is studiously avoided.

The missing ingredient - constitutional obedience - is avoided because this election is like 2008: Ron Paul is running. He's the only Republican who has consistently scored 100% on the JBS' "Conservative Index" as published in The New American. It is the reason why Mr. Paul received more donations from soldiers in the military (2008) than all other candidates COMBINED - our soldiers take an oath to the Constitution and they know how important constitutional obedience is to our form of government. Without regard for this supreme law of the land, our nation will be subverted from within.

I would encourage anyone who is teaching American government to task their students with the job of comparing Ron Paul to every other candidate that is out there, including Barack Obama. The contrast between Paul and the others is stark, and the comparisons between Obama and the GOP field with Paul as a counterpoint drive home the fact that most politicians are statist in their record, regardless of party affiliation.

Also I suggest that in addition to that research, check out the "World's Smallest Political Quiz" and how libertarian political philosophy is something that most Americans unconsciously embrace (we love liberty, after all), yet there's a disconnect between that libertarian trend and the authoritarian bent expressed by most politicians after only a couple years in office.

That disconnect between what We The People are wanting - and what the beltway crowd is delivering - is why we have a militia movement, and even today, the Tea Party & Occupy Wall Street protests. Depending on how the economy goes, and other unforeseen events, we may see more protests and even broader dissident activity.

Just check out Ron Paul, and compare him to the rest. That will certainly spark discussion in the classroom!!
