Teaching Europe’s Debt Crisis
With all the talk of Europe’s debt crisis, details are hard to keep straight. Luckily, there are folks out there who are trying to help us understand it all. We’ve rounded up a few great links to help students understand what’s going on.
The New York Times Teaching and Learning Blog created a great infographic and flow chart. The site also offers lesson plans, paper topics, and even a game to get students interested in the debt debate.
Al Jazeera English has this short video to help students grasp the full scale of Greece’s $500 billion debt. This is sure to get discussion going in class.
Explainity uses stop motion animation to tell the story of what’s happening in this cartoon called, “The Emergency Parachute.”
JP Morgan explained the crisis using LEGO Minifigures. The version on this blog is hard to read, but you can download the PDF and accompanying key at the “research note” link. Highly entertaining!
Lastly, here is an interactive map by the Telegraph. It allows students to click on a European nation to see their debt data as compared to other European states.
